How, then, shall we characterize this elephant?
Article Abstract:
The discussions catalyzed by the Pauline J. Horne and C. Fergus Lowe paper explaining verbal behavior through the concept of name relations examined issues that have not been directly faced by behavior analysts. The differences in initial assumptions, theoretical frameworks and judgments of what can be accepted as valid evidence of a viewpoint made it seem as if each one was referring to a subject entirely different from those of the other writers. These differences, however, are essential to extending reaserch on the behavioral aspects of verbal and related phenomena.

Equivalence classification by California sea lions using class-specific reinforcers
Article Abstract:
Two California sea lions have shown the ability to classify stimuli into functional classes. Several experiments demonstrated sea lions' forming equivalence classes in conditional procedures, and that reinforcers that begin as class-specific can become equivalence class members.
