Immanence and identify: understanding poverty through law and society research
Article Abstract:
Three recent books examined the relationship between welfare law, poverty, and politics. These books were "We the People: Work, Poverty, and Welfare" by Joel Handler and Yeheskel Hasenfeld; "(Dis)Entitling the Poor: The Warren Court, Welfare Rights, and the American Political Tradition" by Elizabeth Bussiere; and "The War Against the Poor: The Underclass and Anti-Poverty Policy" by Herbert J. Gans. These books made clear the dominance of welfare politics in the US.
