In defence of the sociological canon: a reply to David Parker

Article Abstract:

Sociologist David Parker contends that the writings of Marx, Durkheim and Weber have been used to promote various dogmas and to legitimize conclusions without first consulting their works. Parker also questioned the canonization of the three classical sociologists to the exclusion of other sociologists including Auguste Comte, known as the Father of Sociology, and black or female sociologists. His other recommendations are discussed.
