Is there a Scandinavian political sociology today?

Article Abstract:

Political sociology does exist in Scandinavia today, but it is questionable whether political sociologists do. Most recent Scandinavian research in political sociology was conducted by political scientists and sociologists within the contexts of their disciplines. The 1970s and 1980s did not provide many opportunities for research on topics characteristic of political sociology, but with the foundation of the European Union and the collapse of the Communist societies of Eastern Europe, that situation has changed. A rebirth of Scandinavian political sociology will probably occur as a result.

Hopes, illusions and deceptions: half a century of political sociology in Poland

Article Abstract:

Polish political sociology has existed since the relaxation of Stalinism in 1956. It has concerned itself almost exclusively with Polish political affairs, and political sociologists have tended to become directly involved in the political process. After Stalinism's demise, Marxist-oriented research gradually lost its preeminence as alternative theoretical models and continuing Polish social change engaged researchers. The next generation of political sociologists appears to be less concerned with Polish affairs, having instead a more international outlook and a theoretical orientation.
