Jihadi Strategic studies: The alleged Al Qaida policy study preceding the Madrid bombings
Article Abstract:
An Al Qaida strategy document about Iraq is analyzed that received considerable attention after the Madrid bombings because of its references to the Spanish elections. The origin, content, and significance of the document are discussed and it is argued that it represents a hitherto unidentified genre in radical Islamist literature, namely 'jihadi strategic studies'.

Rationality, culture, and structure in the making of suicide bombers: A preliminary theoretical synthesis and illustrative case study
Article Abstract:
The intersection of rationality, norms, and conflict in the making of extreme violence is explored using rationalist, culturalist and structuralist approaches to contentious politics. The case of Palestinian suicide bombers demonstrates the interdependence of the three approaches to explaining suicidal violence.
