Covering urban unrest: the headline says it all
Article Abstract:
Analysis of the results of an experiment conducted to demonstrate how headline frames effect Reader perception, revealed the power of headlines in articles reporting on urban unrest. Headlines for a selected article on the topic, were varied as to focus on race, labor relations, or they were made neutral. The college-level education of the student participants in the experiment, did not make them sophisticated enough to prevent heavy stereotyping in their responses to race-focused articles. The role of social responsibility by editors, was discussed.

Labor and community in the deindustrialisation of urban America
Article Abstract:
Labor-community campaigns, which are grassroots, offer workers alternative ways to respond to the threat of deindustrialization. These campaigns in different cities have different employment histories and are likely to adopt different approaches to local economic development. Community groups actively participate in workers' struggle against plant closings. Comparison of labor-community campaigns in Chicago and Worcester, Massachusetts, highlight the role of local context in shaping campaign strategies.
