The aggression test as a taxanomic tool: evaluation in sympatric and allopatric populations of Wood-Ant species

Article Abstract:

An aggression test may be used as a taxonomic tool following the results of an aggression test on two types of ant species that share and don't share a common area. Allopatric and sympatric ants of the F. lugubris and F. rufa species exhibit a low agonistic behavior and tend to accept nonestmates. This may be caused by the sharing of common ecological and competitive values or that they share common signals and behavioral patterns.
