Media form and cultural space: negotiating rap "fanzines."
Article Abstract:
Rap fanzines weaken the socio-political criticism found in rap music by adopting the conventional teen magazine format. Like other teen magazines, rap fanzines primarily address female readers. However, the former focus on male celebrities as objects of desire, whereas since the late 1980s, the latter also feature female rappers as role models. The radical dimension of rap fanzines is diluted by the juxtaposition of political arguments with articles on style and fashion. It is further limited by the refusal of rap fanzines to focus on street culture and the sexism of most rap lyrics.

Raks El Sharki: transculturation of a folk form
Article Abstract:
Raks el Sharki and its associated Middle East and North African versions bear little or no resemblance to belly dancing in the US. The continued quest of women to explore the sensuality is reflected in the variety of performing environment and styles. They try to establish the female power related to the erotic. Raks el Sharki because of its link with child-birth and fertility, gave women this freedom in a safe and legitimate context.

The 'Radiokappleik': regional Norwegian folk music in the media
Article Abstract:
Norway's popular music radio station held radiokappleiks on four occasions in the 1980s to measuring the contestants' knowledge of Norwegian regional folk music. However, it is unlikely to be held again due to various reasons, such as the increasing popularity of satellite television and lack of finances.
