Memory of the Sun: An archaeological study of knowledge concerning the discourse on the birth of the sun on the nineteenth day of the third month (lunar calendar)
Article Abstract:
The nineteenth day of the third month, the day when the Chongzhen emperor is commemorated, is a symbolic manifestation that may shed light on the issue of whether Han Chinese held any memory of the previous dynasty. Historical and ethnographic studies of the southern coastal provinces and Taiwan show that, the nineteenth day of the third month is used as the date of the birth of the sun, and this date of the sun is invented as a way of commemorating the death of the Chongzhen emperor.

The ancestors' drawing power: Mobile clan-based groups and social memory: Examples from the Southeastern Han Chinese
Article Abstract:
The same surname or fellowship groups continuously reconfigure patterns of social cohesion under the influence of the ancestor's power to draw them together. The emergence and development of groups formed either by merging ancestry or through shared surnames shows that for the Han people, to whom ancestors and ascendants are one entity have become an important basis for maintaining the social structure of traditional Han society.

Imagined blood: The creation of a community of memory through sworn brotherhood
Article Abstract:
The study of the rituals involving blood and their significance within the practice of sworn brotherhood allows to see the concepts of 'blood relationship' and 'simulated blood relationship' in Chinese society. The role of blood in the ritual of sealing alliances by smearing blood was initially that of a means of communicating with ancestors.
