Mental-health services for refugee women and children in Africa

Article Abstract:

The neglect and lack of development of professional mental-health services for refugee children and women in Africa is focused and it is argued that relief activities should include psychological and mental-health services to help them deal with their traumatic experiences. It is noted that professional social work intervention from Africa and elsewhere, on the mental health of refugees would benefit the suffering children and women in Africa.

When children have problems

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to help provide knowledge specific to parents who have emmigrated from the former Soviet Union (FSU) but the findings of this study cannot be generalized to other immigrant groups. The findings, however, increase the limited knowledge base about the approach of parents in this immigrant group towards help-seeking and the barriers they may encounter if they do seek help.
