Off-beat rhythms: patterns in Kuba's textiles
Article Abstract:
The patterns in Kuba textile arts are similar to the off-beat phrasing of African music. A study of Kuba textile, therefore, should focus on rhythm or movement because it is the main trait of African music or art. Among the three patterns in Kuba textile are Mikope Ngnoma, Mbun and Skinna nvoa. The three patterns and their variations are all drawn from Kuba life, history and culture and have distinctive social meanings. Mikope Ngnoma refers to a famous king named Mikope, Mbun represents Kashashi, the legendary woman who was the favorite consort of Mikope, and Skinna nvoa stands for a dog's tail.

Conversing privately in public: patterns of interaction in 'Today' show co-op conversations
Article Abstract:
Co-ops refer to five-minute breaks in network programming into which affiliate stations fit in local news. A study on co-op conversations between 'Today' show hosts has proved that these conversations display both private and public behavior of the hosts. Factors that show public acknowledgment are direct references to the segments, audience recognition and topic pre-determination. Characteristics of the private nature are informal interactions between cast and crew and non-constricting conversation and behaviour.
