Opinion surveys and demographic profiles: toward understanding cultures of popular religion?
Article Abstract:
A study of the techniques employed by popular culture scholars shows an important shortcoming in methodology. Sample survey and the comparative method have been cited as particularly relevant because they relate to the social aspects of popular culture. In fact, some of the latest articles on popular culture such as Douglas T. Miller's 'Popular Religion of the 1950s' and Norman Vincent Peal et al's 'Viewing the Bible Belt' have adapted opinion surveys and superimposed Area of Dominant Influence's over Bureau of Economic Analysis Regions'.
