Personal ethics in social work with older people
Article Abstract:
Daily experience of working with older people instills personal ethics in social workers that sensitizes them to the needs and desires of the elderly. The social workers' experiences with older citizens enhance feelings of mortality and death. Such feelings evolve into a personal ethic that has positive mutual consequences for the practitioners and their elderly clients. The reciprocity between social workers and their older clients involves positive and curative consequences, which is sorely lacking in current definitions of professional ethics.
