Political activity in social work: a theoretical model of motivation
Article Abstract:
Political activism among social services workers depends on motivational factors such as effort-reward probability and reward value. The political activity index designed by Patti and Dear classifies workers according to political involvement. The Detached social workers are indifferent to issues, while the Committed are politically involved. The Opportunists get involved only when it affects their career, while the Cynics feel that nothing can be done about it. The Contingents become involved only when sure that the action is effective and that it does not take too much of their professional time.

Preparing for sudden death or organ donation: an ethical dilemma in social work
Article Abstract:
Social workers involved in organ procurement face the ethical dilemma of helping clients who are undergoing bereavement trauma and the need for immediate donor consent. However, there are guidelines that make sure that the organ procurement is ethical, that the donation was voluntary and that the consent was explicit and positive. Public education about organ donation and transplant would also make a good proactive measure which may be applied before hand. More people would be open to the idea of donation if they are made to understand that they could very well be recipients themselves.

'International Social Work': reflections on the Journal and its future
Article Abstract:
The 'International Social Work,' an international journal for the social work profession, has undergone two reviews which resulted in its present format. An evaluative examination of its contents reveals the need for a third review. The journal has two major weaknesses, namely, in its historical content and in its coverage. It also needs to clarify its mission, which is quite unfocused and therefore inadequate in its present form.
