Racial bias in perceptions of athleticism: The role of motivation in the elimination of bias

Article Abstract:

The approach used previously to eliminate racial biases in decisions to shoot at suspects is tested to find out if it could be effective in the elimination of racial biases in the identification of athletic equipment. The findings of the study point out that repeatedly exposing people to social stimuli where race is nondiagnostic could eliminate racial biases resulting from positive as well as negative racial stereotypes, particularly for those personally motivated to eliminate bias.
