Reactions toward an unexpected or counternormative favor-giver: does it matter if we think we can reciprocate?.
Article Abstract:
The potential moderating role of awareness of a future reciprocity opportunity on reciprocation of unexpected and counternormative favors is examined and the recipients' impressions of individuals who provide such unusual favors is explored. A stronger, but more ambivalent impressions of someone who provides such favors is suggested by the findings.

The man who wasn't there: subliminal social comparison standards influence self-evaluation
Article Abstract:
Participants engaged in self-evaluation were subliminally primed with the names of potential social comparison standards in order to find out whether people compare themselves with a standard, not consciously perceived. It is found that under specific conditions, subliminal exposure to social comparison standards influences self-evaluations.

Article Abstract:
A demonstration that participants render their best friends accessible during a comparative self-evaluation is provided. It is concluded that the best friend is used as a routine standard during comparative self-evaluations.
