Regional foods and rural development: The role of product qualification

Article Abstract:

The issues of qualification schemes which are popular tools for supporting regional foods is explored by tracing the evolution of three cases of regional food production, where local actors pursue the opportunity to qualify products under EEC Regulation 2081/92. Product qualification can be regarded as a mechanism for linking local and non-local actors, a means by which local actors can signal to, and attract revenues from exogenous actors and institutions.

The restructuring of local government in rural regions: A rural development perspective

Article Abstract:

One way to critically examine local government restructuring policies and programmes is to determine the extent to which they accord with commonly held principles of rural development, both in terms of outcomes and process. A particular public policy intervention in rural Ontario, Canada is examined critically and thus concluded that the process is antithetical to rural development.

Inter-institutional relations in the governance of England's national parks: A governmentality perspective

Article Abstract:

The latest developments in power relations between different levels of government are analyzed considering the relationship between England's National Park Authorities (NPAs) and the UK government. Results reveal that the managerial tendencies of central government are more influential in the changing governance of England's National Park than the UK NPAs.
