Article Abstract:

The analysis of the Home Owners' Loan Corporation's (HOLC's) role concerning the patterns of real estate appraisal and mortgage credit allocations along racial lines is presented. The relationship between grades and the distribution of mortgages varied by lender type and between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, recommending the importance of local context in examining HOLC as a public policy instrument and its subsequent impact on racial segregation.

Post-socialist urban forms: Notes from Sofia

Article Abstract:

The transformation of urban forms and the key processes involved, in the city of Sofia, Bulgaria, since the end of socialism in 1989 is analyzed. It is concluded that twenty-first century Sofia is quite similar to capitalist cities far more than it did before 1989 and there are many factors, local, post-socialist nuances that have shaped up Sofia's built fabric.
