Romania and the second demographic transition: The traditional value system and low fertility rates

Article Abstract:

A study that examines the 'second demographic transition theory' in light of changes in the Romanian demographic structure since the 1950s is illustrated. Findings show that for Romanian women, the classic model of the 'bourgeois family', which centers on the child, is still the dominant one and despite rather traditional attitudes toward family and children, Romania has experienced a dramatic decline in total fertility rate and has the lowest fertility rate in the world.

Is professionalism the way to success? The social and professional characteristics of the rich and the poor

Article Abstract:

A survey was conducted related with inequality and poverty to show that someone being at one economic level or another has less to do with the formal aspects of status (education, skill level etc.) than someone's market position. The result showed that people with similar levels of education could be found in either the better-off or worse-off groups depending on whether they work in the private or the state-owned sector.
