Rural social work in Scotland and eastern Canada: A comparison between the experience of practitioners in remote communities

Article Abstract:

A study comparing the differences in rural social work in remote areas of Scotland and eastern Canada is illustrated. It was found that Victoria County and the Isle of Arran demonstrated knowledge of rural generalism and community-oriented practice models, like the Victoria County Outreach Program, existed whereas in Port Au Port social work appeared to react solely to individual welfare needs and the staff was under great pressure due to the peculiar demands of the area.

Cross-cultural application of self-in-relation theory: The case of Taiwanese young women

Article Abstract:

The basis of self-in-relation theory is that the self is organized and developed through practice in relationships. The issue of gender role identity in Taiwanese women was explored to understand their experiences within the historical and social contexts, and it was observed that they were highly influenced by Confucian philosophy, which respected women only through their maternal roles, supporting the cross-cultural application of self-in-relation theory.
