Scott Briar, 1927-1998

Esteemed social work educator Scott Briar died on Aug 24, 1998. Briar received his doctorate from Columbia University in 1961, served as dean of the University Washington School of Social Work from 1971 to 1987, was influential in developing social work education curriculum, and devising empirical methods to validate the benefits of social work.

Comprehensive assessment tools for Hispanics: validation of the multi-problem screening inventory (MPSI) for Puerto Ricans
Article Abstract:
This article provides an evaluation of the Multi-Problem Screening Inventory (MPSI) which was adapted for Hispanics. The authors, applying the social work practice assessment tool to 313 Puerto Rican students, conclude that the MPSI is valid with results similar to the English version.
