Should I stay or should I go? Migration expectations among youth in Icelandic fishing and farming communities
Article Abstract:
An analysis of national surveys in 1992 and 2003 revealed that perception of occupational opportunities was the strongest predictor of migration intentions, while predictors of wanting to stay included parental control and support, to be raised in the community, and the interest in working in the primary industry. Adolescents who identified strongly with the local community and were more proud of their nationality were less likely to migrate and these results are discussed in the context of changing social identities in an increasingly global culture.

Living with dementia in rural and remote Scotland: Diverse experiences of people with dementia and their carers
Article Abstract:
A project that explores the relationship between the experience of service provision for people with dementia and their carers, and their rural location is illustrated. The key aspects of rurality are defined as a perceived relationship between place, space and people, whereby the low population density, a relationship with the land and the lifestyles of inhabitants creates an ideal type of social dynamic, often perceived as a supportive community.
