Suppose it were a genetic disorder?
Article Abstract:
An article called 'A Defect in Nurturing in Mice Lacking the Immediate Early Gene fosB' has renewed earlier fears that child abuse and neglect could be a genetic, and not a social, problem. The authors showed that mice whose fosB genes were 'knocked-out' ignored their pups after delivery. On the other hand, mothers with the gene still intact cuddled and nursed their pups normally. This shows that the absence of the fosB gene leads to failure to develop the neural circuits needed for a nurturing behavior. Geneticists, neuroscientists and policy makers must work together at ensuring that more research into the implications of the study to human neglect will be done.

It's time to broaden the agenda
Article Abstract:
The purpose of improving the research agenda policy concerning child sexual abuse is to increase awareness among physicians and allied health professionals. Three main areas of research focus should concentrate on natural history, boys as victims of sexual abuse and public health approach in preventing abuse. Other areas that must be included as research concerns are neuroscience, genetics and intergenerational nature of the offense.
