The coming battle over online instruction
Article Abstract:
Faculty intellectual property rights may be undermined by deals between universities and private firms for the distribution of professors' courses through distance learning. Such is the case with the University of California Los Angeles' agreement with The Home Education Network, as well as the deal inked between the University of California, Berkeley and America On Line and the University of Colorado and Real Education. This increased interest in the ownership of the copyright to courses is driven by the monetary rewards that would come from their distribution to large audiences. More intellectual property rights battle between teachers and universities could arise from the rapid expansion of online instruction.

Article Abstract:
The existing economic and ecological problems associated with Pacific Northwest's forests, or more specifically of the remaining one-tenth of the natural resource, is best understood by first reviewing the political and economic factors underlying the growth of what can be considered a giant timber industry. Cultural and community identity deterioration in Pacific Northwest's forest resource-based communities represent a social crisis that emanates from economic and ecological issues.
