The determinants of health: structure, context and agency
Article Abstract:
It is argued that the theory of social structure is primarily used as groundwork for the social version of health inequalities and their determinants. The contribution of medical sociologists towards arguments over health inequalities, with focus on contributions to the journal, Sociology of Health and Illness, is examined.

Socioeconomic measures in early old age as indicators of previous lifetime exposure to environmental health hazards
Article Abstract:
The relationship between disadvantage in early old age and that earlier in life is compared with the lifetime residential and occupational histories of 294 older subjects. More disadvantaged elderly had higher lifetime exposure scores to various health hazards.
