The eternal antithesis: a commentary on Donahoe, Palmer, and Burgos

Article Abstract:

Three issues are tackled to shed light to Donahoe, Palmer, and Burgos' claim that 'what is selected is always an environment-behavior relation, never a response alone.' First, brief exploration of the antecedents of the environment-behavior selection principle was made. Second, speculation on the possible role of complexity theory in dealing with the molecular-molar distinction was pointed out. Lastly, the role of neural network models in behavioral analysis was emphasized.

Theory and behavioral analysis: commentary on Donahoe, Palmer, and Burgos

Article Abstract:

Donahoe and colleagues believe that operant and Pavlovian conditioning are not completely different processes although they are measured using different procedures. They are also right to insist on the necessity for real-time theory but others disagreed when they promoted Skinner's (1950) moment-by-moment analysis. It is concluded that reinforcement must act not just on the response but also on its connection with context.

In today's climate, a forecast for change: a commentary on Donahoe, Palmer, and Burgos

Article Abstract:

The future of the analysis of behavior was the point driven bye Donahoe, Palmer and Burgos in their discourse on stimulus-response. The problem in attempting to converge behavioral systems was not on the conceptual nature of the S-R but ultimately, procedural and measurement differences, which accounted for the changes taking place on the operant and classical learning traditions.
