The new economy and the American dream: examining the effect of work conditions on beliefs about economic opportunity
Article Abstract:
New economic landscape and its effects on people's views about economic opportunity are investigated by Using the data from the 1998 Indiana survey of workers in a polarized economy. It was found that job deterioration and experiences with layoffs and job threats is the major cause of pessimism about the American Dream among Indiana workers.

Causal deviance and the attribution of moral responsibility
Article Abstract:
The aim of the study is to determine whether the current theories of moral responsibility are missing a factor in the attribution of blame and praise. The study demonstrates that even when cause, intention, and outcome are present, blame and praise are discounted when the factors are not linked together in the usual manner.

The moral economy of grades and standards

An argument is presented that standards and grades are part of the modern world's moral economy, rather than merely convenient practices for organizing markets. Standards and grades not only establish norms for behavior but also create uniformity, and influence how we perceive ourselves.
