The state of qualitative data analysis software: what do we need?
Article Abstract:
Qualitative data analysis software has improved dramatically during the past five years. Innovations such as flexible coding and searching mechanisms and more sophisticated theory-building capabilities have made packages more useful and user-friendly. General software features, such as switching between network and matrix display modes, and those related to specific research approaches, such as chronological sequencing or annotation capabilities, could still be improved, however. More automation of labor-intensive features is desirable so long as the researcher remains in control.
