The temporary agricultural worker program and caribbean sugar cane workers
Article Abstract:
The temporary agricultural worker program was created in 1943 to allow for the entry and employment of foreign agricultural workers in the US. Known today as the H-2A program, it gives US agricultural employers a sufficient labor force and at the same time protects the US labor force against the negative effects of hiring foreign workers. Hence, employers are permitted to hire foreign workers on a temporary or seasonal basis. Recently however, there has been concern on some elements regarding the workers' employment. These include the payment of their transportation costs and wage deductions for health, life insurance and savings.

A survey from KALAYAAN/Commission for Filipino Migrant Workers Center showed that domestic workers are continuously being violated and that legal recourse are fruitless due to the country's existing laws. The group has been persistently campaigning for the UK government to provide them the rights and freedom that other workers enjoy in the UK.
