They shoot prime ministers too, don't they? Religious violence in Israel: premises, dynamics, and prospects
Article Abstract:
The assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin on Nov 4, 1995, prompted ordinary Israelis to look carefully at the nature of democracy in their country and at the impact of religious violence there. It is possible to argue that those who perpetrate religiously motivated violence in Israel are motivated by genuine grievances, radical ideology, extremist psychological states and action which can be identified as the violence tendency tandem. Religious violence is bound up with the concepts of martyrdom and sacrifice, but these do not serve to shift it towards symbolism.
