Third birth intentions and uncertainty in Canada
Article Abstract:
Factors that predict intentions to have a third child are the same as those that predict uncertainty, with their effects strikingly similar. This was gleaned from a study of intention to have a third child among a national sample of 5,914 women and 4,835 men from Canada, using data from the 1995 Canadian General Society Survey. Findings show that 15% of those surveyed intend to have a third child. Age is found to have a diminishing effect on intentions and uncertainty, while regular church attendance, remarriage and being Catholic have a positive effect on third birth intentions.
