Towards a new radical agenda: A critique of mainstreamed sociological radicalism

Article Abstract:

Some elements central to the reconstruction of the radical sociology project in the 21st century are presented, like developing practices and theories to fit into the dominating matrix of race, class and gender and maintaining the central ideologies while discounting the theoretical correctness and elitism of earlier theories. Criticism of power, sidelining the notion that class-based politics is the only way of uniting people, questioning Eurocentric and White nationalism and fighting complacency are recommended.

Transforming or reforming the discipline? Radical sociology of the 1970s and 1980s

Article Abstract:

Radical sociology as it was in the 1970s and the 1980s and its history are revisited and the classic essays are considered essential statements in sociology, as the essayists' reflections on their earlier work provide a thought-provoking intellectual history of insurgent sociologists over decades. These essays are a powerful reminder of radical sociology's history and provide a roadmap of how particular American sociologist's thinking has been shaped.

Radical roots

Article Abstract:

The compiled set of essays in 'Enriching the Sociological Imagination: How Radical Sociology Changed Discipline' compels one to reflect on the radical roots of sociology in the 1970s and the course that the field of sociology has taken since then. The articles are re-published to show how they have helped sociology to be different and more critical than it was at the end of the 1960s, and how different the discipline is in the 2000s.
