Unfair treatment and self-regulatory focus

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to understand the perception of and responses to unfair treatment in both academic and workplace contexts, focusing on self-regulatory systems that have psychological and physiological effects. The findings show that making salient stigmatized category membership activates prevention focus, which ultimately affects the concentration on the goal at hand.

Are members of low status group perceived as bad, or badly off? Egalitarian negative associations and automatic prejudice

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis that implicit measures of prejudice can tap negative, yet egalitarian associations was explored by three studies. Results revealed that White Americans' negative automatic associations with African Americans might partly come from associating members of low status groups with unfair circumstances.

Group-based dominance and opposition to equality as independent predictors of self-esteem, ethnocentrism, and social policy attitudes among African Americans and European Americans

Article Abstract:

Issues regarding a multidimensionl approach social dominance orientation including the variables of both opposition to equality and support for group-based dominance are discussed.Study showed the two factors to be more highly intercorrelated for European American than for African American respondents.
