Arterial gas embolism

Article Abstract:

Divers suffer arterial gas embolism (AGE) when they abruptly ascend with a full lung and hold their breath when they panic. AGE can cause serious brain damage and even death if a victim is not immediately recompressed. Divers can prevent AGE through proper training and regular medical check-ups.

Antibiotics and diving

Article Abstract:

Divers should avoid the indiscriminate use of antibiotics to prevent the raising of antibiotic-resistant strains. Diving is not advised if divers have open wounds in their bodies. This is because there are resistant strains of bacteria found in fresh and salt water.

Diving for seniors

Article Abstract:

Older divers should modify their diving activities due to physiological limitations that come with age. Aging increases the risk of decompression sickness, heart disease and renders muscles and joints less mobile.
