Collapsed lungs and prohibitions to diving
Article Abstract:
Diving with a spontaneous pneumothorax is not recommended. First aid is needed to evacuate air if a lung collapses while diving, for which most divers and dive boats may not be prepared. Spontaneous pneumothorax is an inherited disease where some areas of the lung's pleural lining are weak.

Skin divers have resorted to new gas mixtures containing more oxygen to prolong bottom time. However, these mixtures have been found to cause accidental oxygen poisoning and oxygen seizures induced by excess carbon dioxide in the body.

Can freediving cause DCS?
Article Abstract:
Free diving can cause decompression sickness (DCS) if there is no sufficient surface time between dives. Ideally the surface time should be twice that of the dive time to minimize the risk of DCS.
