One way to overcome strong ocean currents is to ride them while drift snorkeling. Snorkelers can enjoy the ride on the currents by floating on the surface and watching coral reefs below. Safety is a paramount concern, however, so snorkelers should stay in sites suitable to their skill levels.

Snorkelers should guard against underwater injuries. Snorkeling injuries can be caused by fire coral, Portuguese Man-of-War, jellyfish, sea urchins, scorpionfish, stonefish, lionfish, fireworms and stingrays. Snorkelers are advised to wear protective full-body dive suits to avoid injuries.
