The second International Underwater Cleanup to be held on Sep. 21, 1996, aims to call attention to the serious problem of marine debris. On this day, divers and their families in every state and in more than 84 countries will pick up trash on the beach and underwater.

1995 U/W Cleanup highlights
Article Abstract:
Approximately 7,442 divers in the US and 27 countries who participated in Underwater Cleanups, held on Sep. 16, 1995, are to be commended for their successful undertaking. This major effort united the divers in ending the industry's biggest enemy, marine pollution.

An overwhelming number of divers and dive shops volunteered their services and resources for the Sept. 16, 1995 underwater cleanup. The event coincides with the Center for Marine Conservation's International Coastal Cleanup Day.
