The search for the golden hammerhead: Trinidad's spectacular shark species

Shark expert Dr Jose Castro discovered in 1985 that the Hammerhead Sharks in an eastern shore in Trinidad had a golden color. Dr Castro postulated that their color was due to their diet of pigmented shrimp and golden-colored catfish, a theory validated by laboratory tests of their skin tissues.

A photographer relates his technique in shooting a reef blacktip shark off the coast of Moorea. He used two state-of-the-art camera systems designed to eliminate usual problems in underwater photography.
