1974 Oakland Athletics: the mustache gang overcomes adversity to win third consecutive championship

Article Abstract:

The Oakland A's won their third straight World Series in 1974, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. Previous World Series had seen the A's defeat the New York Mets in 1973 and the Cincinnati Reds in 1972. The players often brawled in the clubhouse, but played well on the field.

Kenny Lofton

Kenny Lofton of the Cleveland Indians believes that someday he may be considered the best leadoff hitter in baseball, but only after Rickey Henderson retires. Lofton, who has 196 stolen bases and a .315 batting average from 1992-94, claims that he prefers playing defense.

The Babe myth: the call that was never made

Article Abstract:

One of the best known legends of baseball is Babe Ruth's pointing to the spot where he would hit the next pitch for a home run. This event supposedly took place in the 1932 World Series, but according to those who saw the game it never actually took place.
