A new launch for onboard networks

Article Abstract:

The new standard, National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) 2000, enables cruisers to hook up digital gear from a variety of manufacturers and have immediate seamless operation. NMEA 2000 can transmit 250,000 bits per second and is generally used for fairly short bursts of data, such as latitude and longitude, engine temperature and autopilot commands.

Article Abstract:

The World Meteorological Organization broadcasts up-to-date information on weather movements for sailors in the form of maps. The maps chart wind and air pressure movements in terms of isobars and speed as well as gradient pressure patterns that may signal the onset of a storm.
