Val d'Isere in France is rapidly becoming one of the most popular ski resorts in the world because of its spectacular scenic beauty. Officials are now trying to make the resort even better by renovating its buildings, improving backcountry access and stressing responsible development.

Certain ski areas are more likely to have snow early in the season. These resorts include Mt. Baker, WA; Mt. Bachelor, OR; and Alta, UT. Some ski resorts, such as Sun Valley, have snow-making equipment if there is not enough snowfall.
