Article Abstract:

The discovery in 1980s, by the French builders DeDion and Bouton broke the barriers to the lower weight per horsepower necessary to power vehicles as the strokes of these much smaller engines were short, and peak piston acceleration remained at a tiddly 450g. The combination of three effects that broke strokes due to rise in piston acceleration is presented.
