The American Diabetes Assc's new dietary guidelines indicate that diabetics can consume sweets or alcohol in a well-planned diabetic diet, but experts suggest that it is easier to maintain blood sugar control by avoiding them. A diet high in fat is recommended for some diabetics.

Researchers from Israel's Ben-Gurion University of the Negev have issued a preliminary report that subjects chewing eight antacid tablets per day reduced LDL cholesterol levels by nearly 10%.
