Black, blacker, blackest: afterhours tips on dealing with fog

Article Abstract:

Navigating a recreational boat through fog may require breaking some of the rules of the road at sea. For example, the rules dictate that fog signals be given about every two minutes, but this may not be realistic or safe for small boats. The time could be better spent looking for navigational aids and other boats.

Walk the walk: how to make your boat go sideways

Article Abstract:

Boats can be steered to move sideways upon docking in two ways. The easier way would be to use a bow thruster. Without a bow thruster, a flat bottomed boat may be driven sideways if it has an inboard engine and large and responsive rudders. The technique is described.
