Comparison of cardiac output measured by two automated methods of CO(sub.2) rebreathing

Article Abstract:

Measurement of cardiac output by two automated methods of CO(sub.2) rebreathing has been studied. It was found that automated curve fitting for the exponential method gave reproducible, valid results during submaximal and maximal exercise. This was not, however, the case at rest. The equilibrium method interfered, however, with exercise, so it is recommended at rest and for lower levels of exercise only.

Sodium loading aids fluid balance and reduces physiological strain of trained men exercising in the heat

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine whether preexercise intake of a highly concentrated sodium beverage would increase plasma volume (PV) and reduce the physiological strain of moderately trained males running in warm conditions. It was found that preexercise intake of a high-sodium beverage increased PV before exercise and reduced physical strain of trained men exercising in the heat.
