Contributions of lower extremity joints to energy dissipation during landings

Article Abstract:

Leg joint contributions to energy dissipation in landings in vigorous human locomotion have been studied. It was found that knee joint extensors were contributors to energy dissipation on a consistent basis. Ankle plantarflexors contributed more in the stiff landings, but the hip extensors were greater contributors in the soft landings. Ankle use shifted to hip strategy as landing height went up.

Effects of injury proneness and task difficulty on joint kinetic variability

Article Abstract:

This article examines the effects of overuse injury proneness on the kinetic variability of lower extremity joints during a vertical jumping task from three different heights. Results indicate that there are significant differences in knee, hip, and ankle joint moment values between groups during landing impact in all three conditions.

Asynchrony between subtalar and knee joint function during running

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to understand the relationship between frontal plane and sagittal plane kinematics in relation to ground reaction impact forces during distance running. Results point out that many running injuries are due to lack of coordination between frontal and sagittal plane kinematics.
