The American Quarter House Association (AQHA) replaced its controversial white rule which has led problem to some Quarter House breeders regarding the possibility of lethal white foals. AQHA breeders have expressed concern that newly admitted overo color-patterns are predisposed to the production of foals containing the overto lethal white syndrome or lethal white gene.

The Great Whiz slid his way into reining-horse history by winning the National Reining Horse Association Futurity on 6 December 2003 in Oklahoma City. A guaranteed first-place paycheck of $175,000 and the NRHA Gelding Incentive Award of $13,304 was earned by the Great Whiz.
