Developing the future

Article Abstract:

A project to design a boat with reduced expenses for construction, engine and fuel for fishers in the Indian state of Kerala is described. A proa with epoxy-strip planking and a traditional boat with epoxy-glued planking were constructed. The project has applications to other subsistence fishers.

The Race: greed for speed

Article Abstract:

Building racing catamarans which will go fast but withstand the Southern Ocean has proved an enormous challenge for the boat designers involved. The configurations of the hulls, the build of the foils and the sails and rigs are all discussed.

Coming of age

The main difference between the early trimaran and today's are the rigs. After considerable development and innovation the current trimarans are now respected members of sailboat family.
