Differential perceptual and motivational patterns when different goals are adopted

Article Abstract:

Analysis of 699 male and 694 female students from 28 junior and 27 senior high schools in Thessaloniki, Greece, reveals that children are less motivated in physical education, when inferior learning goals are adopted for children with low assumed skills. Teachers should emphasize on a learning-based environment to minimize inequalities among children and increase motivational levels. Encouraging personal progress, without emphasis on the size and magnitude of the results, will teach children to participate in physical education programs.
