Drink up, not out
Article Abstract:
Children of all age groupings are now drinking more sodas, and sugar-enhanced fruit juices, than children drank in 1978, according to a study by the USDA. The weight of US children has increased too. Suggested is three glasses each of milk, and water daily, with juice supplement if needed.

Researchers discovered that amoebas in drinking water can cause acanthamoeba keratitis and other eye diseases if the water is used to clean contact lenses. Scientists recommend disinfecting contact lenses before wearing them whether the user is in the US or abroad.

A survey of children ages 10 to 17 found that the food they ate away from home had little calcium and few vitamins. Parents can encourage better nutrition by offering a choice of healthy food, avoiding lectures and setting a good example.
